What “Ready to Ride” Means
Pre-delivery inspection is a practical preparation and condition check before handoff. It reduces avoidable surprises; it is not a warranty, safety certification, promise of defect-free operation, or guarantee of future performance.
Core PDI categories
- Shipping and visual condition: look for obvious transit damage, missing parts, fluid leakage where applicable, and visible cable or connector concerns.
- Tires: inspect visible condition and set pressure to the applicable manufacturer guidance.
- Brakes: check lever feel and basic brake function before handoff.
- Controls: confirm switches, throttle response, display, and basic control operation in a controlled check.
- Battery seating: confirm the battery appears properly seated and retained under the applicable model procedure.
- Charger: confirm the supplied charger is present and perform an appropriate basic function/indicator check.
- Final function check: perform a controlled basic operating check appropriate to the model and setting.
Checks that may depend on the model or process
Wheel alignment, fastener torque, suspension setup, drivetrain adjustment, VIN-to-document review, and any road or riding test are not represented here as universal steps. Whether they apply—and the required specification or method—depends on the manufacturer procedure, vehicle, equipment, and handoff process. Ask what was completed on your specific bike.
What the buyer should still do
Read the owner’s manual, wear appropriate protective equipment, learn the controls in a controlled area, complete required maintenance, and check the bike before every ride. PDI does not determine whether a location or public-road use is lawful.
